Police intelligence operative waylaid in General Santos CIty

GENERAL SANTOS CITY â€“ A police intelligence officer responsible for the arrest and neutralization of high-profile members of the Dawlah Islamiyah terrorist group in North Cotabato was gunned down in Barangay Sinawal here on Sunday night, March 10.

Police Corporal Ricky Gomez was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while he was driving his motorcycle on the diversion road. The victim succumbed to multiple bullet wounds in the body.

Gomez, an intelligence operative assigned to the Carmen municipal police station in North Cotabato, was undergoing police intelligence training at the Police Regional Office-12 headquarters in this city when he was killed.

Scene-of-the-Crime Operatives from the Regional Forensics Unit-12 led by Police Lt. Col. Geneffer Engabo recovered several empty shells for 5.56 caliber rifle and the caliber 9mm service pistol of the victim.

Police Col. Nicomedes Olaivar, city police director, said investigators are looking at work-related angle as possible motive in the killing of Gomez.
