Mitsubishi’s latest vehicles, the all-new Triton pickup truck and the all-new Xforce compact SUV, picked up two iF DESIGN Product Design awards for 2024. This award is significant because it recognizes vehicles that combine attractive aesthetics with practical functionality. Mitsubishi has consistently focused on creating vehicles that offer more than just transportation, aiming to make every journey thrilling and comfortable.
Mitsubishi has been on this path for quite some time, having won a previous award for the Outlander PHEV in 2023. The designs prioritize dynamic strength, durability, and authenticity, while also ensuring that the vehicles keep up with the latest trends. The brand’s goal is to provide a driving experience that feels futuristic and cutting-edge.
The iF DESIGN AWARD holds great prestige in the world of design. Managed by the iF International Forum Design GmbH in Hannover, Germany, this award has been around for 70 years. This year, they received approximately 11,000 entries from 72 countries, all evaluated by 132 design experts from around the world. The judging criteria encompass everything from the conceptualization of the design to its overall impact. Therefore, Mitsubishi's Triton and Xforce receiving this recognition is a clear indication that they are doing something right.
Seiji Watanabe, the head of design at Mitsubishi Motors, expressed his enthusiasm for the award. He highlighted how the Triton and Xforce each bring their own unique style to the table—the Triton with its bold appearance and the Xforce with its nimble and agile vibe. Both models embody Mitsubishi's signature toughness, but with a fresh and distinctive twist. Watanabe sees this award as an opportunity to showcase these models to an even wider audience.

The all-new Triton is the latest addition to a long-standing lineage that began with the Forte in 1978. This model has become a global success for Mitsubishi, with over 5.7 million trucks produced across five generations and finding homes in approximately 150 countries. The new Triton stays true to its "Beast Mode" roots, showcasing its power and agility, while also boasting a design that exudes strength and an authoritative presence. Inside the vehicle, practicality takes center stage, with a user-friendly design that facilitates easy handling, even when wearing gloves.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi's take on the compact SUV, the all-new Xforce, strikes the perfect balance between comfort and practicality, packaged in a vehicle that is easy to maneuver, regardless of weather or road conditions. The design theme for the Xforce is "Silky & Solid," combining sleek upper body lines with a sturdy foundation, resulting in a stylish yet rugged appearance. Inside, the focus is on sophistication and technology, offering a seamless digital experience.
The new Triton was recently launched in the Philippines and is doing its national rounds with the Go Beyond Limits Tour, visiting both Davao and Pampanga this March. Meanwhile, the Xforce is slated to hit our shores some time mid-2024.
