Hontiveros: Senate to pursue Quiboloy's arrest sans reversal of contempt order
By Dhel Nazario
Sen. Risa Hontiveros said on Monday, March 11, that she would pursue the issuance of an arrest order against Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy should there be a failure to overturn the Senate panel's contempt order.
"Kung bukas ay hindi umusad mula sa apat ngayon papunta dun sa walong kailangan, ibig sabihin magsastand yung pag-cite ko in contempt kay Quiboloy. Ifofollow up ko kay SP na ipaaresto na siya para dalhin dito para sa wakas, sa wakas humarap na sa Senado, sumagot na sa mga tanong tungkol sa kanya (If tomorrow if the four senators would not increase to the eight needed, it means that the contempt order I issued against Quiboloy will stand. I will follow up with the Senate President (SP) to have him arrested to bring him here to finally face the Senate and answer the questions regarding him)," Hontiveros said in a press conference.
Senator Robinhood Padilla has remained firm on blocking Quiboloy's contempt order, claiming in an interview over the weekend that the Filipino people are indebted to Quiboloy, which is the reason why hy he opposed his senator-colleagues' contempt order.
"Tungkol naman sa pirmahan para i-block ang contempt order laban kay Quiboloy, ang huli nating balita ay 4 pa rin sila. At ang masasabi ko naman dyan, ay happy international women's month sa lahat ng aking mga colleagues (Regarding the signing to block the contempt order against Quiboloy, our last update is that there are still four of them. What I can say about that is, happy international women's month to all of my colleagues)," Hontiveros said.
Padilla is still four signatures short of fulfilling his objection to the contempt order against the church leader, who is facing allegations of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and forced labor.
Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito recently backed out from the original five members of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality who sought to block the panel's contempt ruling. The others are Senators Cynthia Villar, Christopher "Bong" Go, Imee Marcos, and Padilla.
When asked if she sees the signatures completed by the following day she replied: "Ang masasabi ko lang for sure ay ngayon, six days after nung manifestation ng objection, apat pa rin lang sila. So, kalahati pa lamang sa kailangang bilang (What I can say is that now, six days after the manifestation of objection, there are still four of them. They are only half of the needed figures)."
"Umaasa ako na bukas, lahat, o kung hindi man lahat, karamihan ng mga kasama ko sa komite ay maninindigan kasama ng mga victim-survivors. At ayon na ayon sa rules of the Senate at sa mandato at kapangyarihan ng Senado (I am hoping that tomorrow, all, or if not all, majority of my colleagues in the committee will stand with the victim-survivors. And in accordance with the rules of the Senate as well as its powers and mandate)," she added.
Meanwhile, she also addressed a certain list of Quiboloy's conditions should he attend the Senate hearing. This has yet to be confirmed by his camp.
However, Hontiveros said that none of them ever thought that the day would come when someone they invited to the hearing will reply with "Sige, pupunta ako sa hearing, pero sa labing pitong kondisyon (Sure, I will attend the hearing, but under 17 conditions). She added that it was the first she heard about such a thing.
"Dinaig pa ni Pastor Quiboloy ang Sampung Utos ng Diyos (Pastor Quiboloy even went above God's 10 commandments)," she said.
"The Senate will not bend its rules and procedures for you, Pastor Quiboloy, even if you are, as you say, a self-appointed son of God. Hindi kami para utusan mo (You cannot tell us what to do)," she added.
