According to the announcement, Lucas will make his solo debut on April 1 with the single “Renegade.”
“Lucas will be making his debut as a solo artist on Mon. April 1, 2024 with Lucas The 1st Single [Renegade]!” the announcement read.
The 25-year-old singer, born in 1999, made his debut on Feb. 22, 2018, according to the announcement.
Lucas will be making his solo debut in less than a year after leaving NCT and WayV due to a personal issue.
In August 2021, Lucas suspended his activities and apologized after a woman who said she was his former girlfriend accused him of gaslighting and mooching off from her.
After this, SM Entertainment and Lucas issued apologies.
"I sincerely would like to apologize to those hurt by my wrongdoings. If you give me a chance, I'd like to apologize to you in person. I also feel truly sorry to all my fans for this,” said Lucas.
On May 10, 2023, SM Entertainment, his agency, announced that Lucas left NCT and WayV.
“We have an announcement to share with you regarding LUCAS’ future plans. After our deliberate discussion LUCAS, we made a mutual decision to part ways with the group NCT and WavV to pursue his individual endeavors,” SM Entertainment said.
For his part, Lucas wrote a letter and said, “Hello everyone, I am Lucas / Huang Xuxi. Today I have something I want to tell you personally.”
“After a long time of consideration, I decided to quit NCT and WayV. I'm really sorry for the members, and I can't bear to part with this friendship that has been going on for so many years. I have known and gotten along with the members for almost 8 years, and I am really grateful to them for taking care of me all the time, and I will never forget this feeling,” he said.
He added, ““I hope that in the memory of the members, I am Huang Xuxi, not Lucas. I really love the members and will always support them. I thought about it for a long time before deciding to quit, but in the end I think this decision is for everyone's best. In the future, in order to wait for my fans, I will work up the courage to meet you through solo activities.”
