The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is expediting the widening of Orani Bridge 1 in Bataan which is expected to address traffic congestion along Roman Expressway.
The Roman Expressway connects Bataan towns from Dinalupihan in the north to Mariveles in the south. It functions as a primary route for various types of vehicles, with urbanized areas scattered throughout its length.
In a report by DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, the bridge widening project with a length of 24 meters will provide wider network capacity for the traveling public.
Tolentino stated that enlarging the bridge from its current width of 18.3 meters to 21.88 meters will result in a six-lane bridge.
The Orani Bridge 1 involves the provision of 1.11-meter-wide sidewalks on both sides for pedestrian mobility and the construction of stone masonry slope protection to ensure the strength of the bridge.
The project with a total contract amount of P28.99 million is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2024.
