In a statement, Islamic Relief Philippines disclosed that the recipients were from the hard-to-reach villages Bagoenged, Buliok, Inug-og, and Kudal.
The Ramadan packs were comprised of 50 kilos of rice, two kilos of sugar, a kilo of native coffee, two liters of cooking oil, six cans of halal corned beef, three kilos of mung or monggo beans, two kilos of all-purpose flour, and two kilos of noodles.
“The packages are expected to support and ease the needs of each family during their fasting especially during Suhur (pre-dawn meal) and Iftar (breaking the fast at sunset) in the communities residing within Liguasan Marsh,” said the Islamic Relief Philippines, a faith inspired international humanitarian and development organization.
The Ramadan program of the Islamic Relief Philippines has been extending various programs on food security in poor and vulnerable communities for seven years.
The Muslim community in the country starts the month-long Ramadan on March 12.
Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is a month-long sacred time for Muslims around the world to reflect, pray, and fast as a means of spiritual discipline and strengthened faith.
