Winners at 17th Asian Film Awards

Japan’s “Evil Does Not Exist” won Best Film and Hirokazu Kore-eda won Best Director at the 17th Asian Film Awards (AFA) held on March 10 in Hong Kong.

The AFA was organized by the Asian Film Awards Academy, which “was founded by Busan, Hong Kong and Tokyo International Film Festivals with the shared goal of celebrating excellence in Asian cinema.”

“Evil Does Not Exist” bagged Best Film, edging out another nominee from Japan, and entries from China, Sri Lanka, India and South Korea. Hirokazu Kore-eda won Best Director for “Monster.”

Korean actress Lee Young-ae, who rose to global fame through the drama "Jewel in the Palace," and Japanese actor Suzuki Ryohei received the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award.

The Chinese movie "Full River Red' was named the recipient of the 2023 Highest-grossing Asian Film Award.

Thai actor Win Metawin received the AFA Rising Star Award.
