BUTUAN CITY – A brick of suspected cocaine valued at P5.7 million was discovered by four residents on the shoreline of Burgos, Surigao del Norte, on Friday, March 8.
Police Regional Office 13-Regional Public Information Office (RPIO) chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said the pack of cocaine weighing 1.08 kilograms was turned over to the 13th Regional Forensic Unit for further examination.

Ometer lauded the residents for reporting their discovery.
“We commend the residents who immediately reported this newly found suspected brick of cocaine, as we continuously ask Caraganons to help the fight against illegal drugs, and immediately report any suspicious movement of illicit drugs,” Ometer said.
PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft also lauded the swift reporting of the contraband to the police.
“Their immediate report to our police station led to the immediate removal of the dangerous drug in the area,” he said.
“I commend the vigilance of our residents and their immediate coordination with our police unit,” Kraft said, adding: “The discovery of this dangerous drug saves a large number of people from becoming victims of substance abuse.”
Kraft urged the people to be vigilant against illegal drugs and make Caraga a drug-free region in Mindanao.
