Marcos off to Central Europe today

President Marcos is set to fly to Central Europe today, March 11, for a Working Visit to Germany from March 12 to 13, and a State Visit to the Czech Republic from March 14 to 15.

Among those joining the President on this trip are First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Migrant Workers officer-in-charge Hans Cacdac, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, and Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil.

Aside from meeting high-ranking officials, the President will also attend business forums in both countries to invite prominent German and Czech business leaders to boost their presence in the Philippines.
While in Germany, Marcos will witness the signing of a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) on strengthening cooperation which seeks to facilitate maritime trade and mobility of Philippine- and German-owned commercial vessels.
There will also be a signing of the cooperation program which seeks to continue Manila and Berlin's partnership on technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
During his trip to the Czech Republic, President Marcos will witness the signing of a joint communique on the establishment of a labor consultations mechanism that aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries, promote the safe and orderly migration of Filipino workers, and provide higher protection of their rights and welfare.
The Czech Republic has expressed its interest in encouraging more skilled and professional Filipino workers to participate in the labor market. It recently increased its yearly quota for Filipino workers from 5,000 to 10,000 starting in May this year.
Meanwhile, President Marcos will take advantage of his trip to Germany and the Czech Republic to enhance the Philippines' defense capability and seek support from other nations in fighting for the country's rights over the West Philippine Sea.
He will express intent to expand the country's current defense cooperation with Germany, which started in 1974. The partnership focused on training the Philippines' armed forces.
With the Czech Republic, Marcos will explore and discuss how both countries can also expand cooperation in areas, including defense.
Excluding this trip to Central Europe, President Marcos has made 23 visits to 15 countries since he assumed office in 2022.
