What about Quiboloy, Badoy? Kabataan solon slams harsh penalty vs Pura Luka Vega

Why the harsh penalty against Pura Luka Vega? 

Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel raised this question on Friday, March 1 even as he drew comparisons to the alleged offenses of controversial figures Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and Lorraine Badoy to what Vega was fined P360,000 for.

According to the 

Makabayan solon, Vega's arrest of account of his drag performance portraying Jesus Christ "sends an ironic message of how controversial performances can be penalized to the fullest extend of the law". 

The youth solon said this took place "while individuals who claim to be God himself like Apollo Quiboloy despite exploiting women and children in a sex trafficking scheme remain beyond the reach of justice". 

Manuel is referring to the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church leader who is facing various charges in the United States (US) in relation to a sex trafficking scheme. He is wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). 

"Moreover, P360,000 is being fined for the 'immoral' performance of Pura Luka Vega which did not directly intend to harm innocent civilians but only P30,000 is being fined against redtagging queen Lorraine Badoy's threat to kill a judge and bomb judge's offices," he added. 

Badoy is the former spokesperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). To put it simply, Makabayan and Badoy don't like each other. 

Another militant lawmaker, ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro, earlier welcomed the Supreme Court's (SC) decision to fine Badoy. But Castro said a heftier fine should have been slapped on her considering her continued involvement in red-tagging activities. 

She said that "It is crucial to send a strong message that such actions have no place in our society and that those who engage in them will face the full consequences of their actions." 

Badoy made derogatory remarks against Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Marlo Magdoza-Malagar on social media in September 2022. These attacks came after the judge dismissed the government's proscription case seeking to label the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the New People's Army (NPA) as terrorist organizations. 

Referring to Magdoza-Malagar as an "idiot judge" and accusing her of lawyering for the CPP-NPA, Badoy even made a supposed hypothetical situation about "killing" the judge, suggesting that she could ask for leniency due to her political beliefs. 

The social media post was later deleted and denied.
