Rep. Duterte aids Davao City fire victims


DAVAO CITY – Eighty-one families affected by a fire in Barangay 34-D here on Monday, February 26, received relief and cash aid from Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte at the Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Elementary School in this city on Thursday, February 29.

Rep. Duterte’s son, Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, led the distribution of relief packs, water containers, bottled water, and cash through the PPP program to 19 house owners, 31 renters, 30 boarders, and a caretaker.

The lawmaker’s staff served 200 hot porridge (lugaw) and are providing packed lunch for five days for fire victims, including their children, starting Thursday or until Monday, March 4.

Rigo, who thanked everyone for their infinite support to his father and the Duterte family, assured that they will continue to provide immediate aid to families affected by calamities and other unfortunate incidents.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao said that the two-hour fire gutted around 20 houses and partially damaged a chapel. Damage to property was estimated at P525,000.

Arson probers said the blaze started from a house owned by Vivian Mainit.

No fatalities and injuries were reported in the fire caused by a fallen electrical post.

The fire spread quickly as affected houses were made of light materials.
