'Hindi naman importante': Cynthia Villar says eco Cha-cha provisions under review are only minor
By Dhel Nazario
Sen. Cynthia Villar said on Friday, March 1, that the economic provisions being reviewed by the Senate in the bid to amend the 1987 Constitution are "minor" and "unimportant."
In an interview, Villar said that after speaking with businessmen, they told her that they are facing problems that are different from what is being reviewed in the Constitution.
"Kasi ito yung sinasabi ng mga businessman actually ang problema nila is yung ease of doing business at saka yung corruption (This is what the businessmen are saying, their actual problem is the ease of doing business and corruption)," she said.
"'Yun lang ang bawasan, okay na tayo (They just have to address that and we'll be fine)," she said in an interview.
Villar added that if the government wants to boost the economy, they can just legislate what needs improvement.
Meanwhile, she also mentioned that if the country were under a parliamentary form of government there would be no Senate, and no senator would vote for such.
The Senate is leading the review of the Constitution's economic provisions under a subcommittee on constitutional amendments and revision of codes led by Sen. Sonny Angara through Resolution of Both Houses No. 6.
Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri filed RBH 6, proposing amendments to Articles XII, XIV, and XVI of the 1987 Constitution pertaining to public services, education, and advertising.
The next scheduled hearing on this will be on March 5.
