Police identified the victim as Joy.

Joy, a resident of Tarangnan, could have been raped or a victim of a failed rape attempt, that prompted her assailant to kill her in Barangay Cahunghan, police added.

The barangay chairman said that he tried to mediate an attempted rape incident between the person of interest and another woman.

The suspect allegedly went into the woman's house but failed to rape her, prompting him to look for another victim.

Joy's burnt body parts were discovered in a forested area while her head and other body parts placed in a sack were discovered by fishermen floating on the sea at around 3 a.m. on Saturday, March 2.

The suspect was reportedly identified because he was anxious during a  confrontation at the barangay hall. He was brought in by the Tarangnan Municipal Police Station for questioning.
