This vocal coach's creative hub is haven for musicians

RMA Studio Academy is a creative center for aspiring and seasoned musicians. It is the brainchild of soprano, mentor, and six-time Aliw Award winner Jade Riccio.

It all started when Jade, who had already made a name as a sought-after singer for operas, concerts, live events, and corporate shows, began giving online singing lessons in 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jade taught her students from her condo in Taguig. Erika Poturnak, daughter of actress Ina Raymundo, was among the first pupils. Erika says, “Coach Jade’s teaching style is incredibly helpful for beginners who need an introduction to understanding the voice and different sensations in the body when singing. She thoroughly explains how to use the voice properly and goes in-depth on how it should feel to place the voice in different registers.”

Jade’s methods proved effective, as Erika eventually got accepted at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, where the young singer is studying.

Success with Erika and then with Maymay Entrata and many others (both celebrities and non-celebrities) further established Jade as a mentor. Jade set up a formal school, which is now located on the second floor of the East Homebase Kapitolyo building in Barrio Kapitolyo in Pasig.

The new HQ is not just an academy but an all-in-one hub with the latest gear and software; facilities for digital creation; studios for video shoots and pictorials; rehearsal rooms for solo artists, bands, and orchestras; cubicles for one-on-one music lessons, and a world-class recording studio. There is also a baby grand piano plus a content studio for a digital creator's content needs.

The walls have acoustic treatment and noise control. Jade’s sister, interior designer Boe Riccio, designed the modern and classy white interiors. "Their new HQ just exudes creativity and gives its students the best resources to succeed. RMA is a true game changer,” says Ms. Universe Philippines Michelle Dee.

The environment is warm, happy, and nurturing. Lessons are supplemented with music video shoots and recitals wherein the RMA students are the stars. Sam Cruz, a budding singer whose parents are actress Sunshine Cruz and actor-director Cesar Montano, says, “The lessons and recording sessions with Coach Jade are a blast — super fun and enjoyable! I always feel comfortable to learn more. Our concert,  ‘Art is Calling for Me,’ was also so much fun, and I appreciate all the effort that Coach Jade and her team put into making it a great experience for us students.”

Sam further describes Jade’s approach as personalized. “She chooses the songs that really suit my style,” Sam says of Jade.

Actress Max Collins has found her sessions at RMA beneficial for her career and well-being. She reveals, “I’ve always been shy about singing, and Jade helped me find my confidence and actually enjoy the process. Now I have fun singing, and it feels therapeutic for me.” The GMA star is now motivated to enroll her young son for singing lessons, too. “I can’t wait for my son Skye to start with RMA!”

You can find a home at RMA Studio Academy regardless of your age or music proficiency. Jade declares, “We welcome everyone from 4 to 65 years old. Our mission is to offer the highest quality music education.”
