The Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Julie E. Maxwell has passed a resolution declaring a state of mourning in San Antonio following Carpio’s death at the hands of two gunmen.

The Philippine flag in government buildings in the town will be flown at half-mast during the period of mourning until the councilor’s internment.

Salonga condemned the incident and added that Carpio was one of his trusted councilors, a farmer, and used to head the SB committees on agriculture and peace and order. He is an action man, Salonga said.

Carpio, a resident of Purok 4, Barangay Luyos, San Antonio, was the No. 1 councilor in the 2019 and 2022 local elections.

The victim was shot in Purok 8, Barangay Santo Cristo, San Antonio by two motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Carpio sustained bullet wounds and died on the way to the hospital.
