New surge of 'amihan' to bring cooler weather this holiday weekend — PAGASA
Will the weather remain the same on Valentine's Day?
If you are traveling this holiday weekend for the Chinese New Year, pack a sweater or jacket, especially if you are visiting certain parts of Luzon where it is expected to be chilly.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in its weekly weather outlook released on Friday, Feb. 9 said the northeast monsoon, also known as “amihan,” is expected to bring cooler weather, particularly in Luzon, until early next week.
From Saturday to Monday, Feb. 10 to 12, PAGASA said cloudy skies with light rains may prevail over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon and Bicol Region due to the surge of amihan.
Meanwhile, the shear line—a rain-inducing weather system formed by the convergence of northeast monsoon and easterly winds—may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.
Isolated light rains may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas, while isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may continue in the rest of Mindanao.
By Tuesday, Feb. 13, PAGASA said the amihan may weaken temporarily but may continue to bring cloudy skies and light rains to Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.
Meanwhile, “fair” weather with isolated light rains may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Northern and Central Luzon.
The rest of the country may have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
From Wednesday to Friday, Feb. 14 to 16, the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, will be the dominant weather system, especially affecting the eastern section of the country.
“Warm and humid weather conditions will be experienced over the whole country,” PAGASA said.
However, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may continue to affect the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas.
