Security guard held for shooting attacker armed with a 'bolo'

A man was killed by a responding security guard who tried to stop him from hacking a 31-year-old man with a bolo in Ermita, Manila on Thursday night, Feb. 8.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the slain suspect as Arsito Santamen, a resident of Ermita, Manila.

Meanwhile, they identified the victim as Acmad Ignacio, who is currently confined at the Ospital ng Maynila as of Friday afternoon, Feb. 9, police said.

Authorities said that prior to the incident, Santamen and Ignacio were engaged in a heated argument at around 7:40 p.m. along Mabini Street near Pedro Gil Street in Ermita, which resulted in Santamen hacking Ignacio several times.

A security guard, Arnel John Barcoma, saw the incident and tried to stop Santamen from hacking Ignacio.

Witnesses in the area said that the security guard fired a warning shot, but instead of obeying him, the suspect turned to the guard with his bolo and was about to attack him.

The security guard immediately fired at Santamen resulting in his immediate death from gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.

Meanwhile, authorities said that the security guard is now temporarily under their custody while charges are being readied against him.
