Party-list congressmen will be more discerning from now on in terms of picking which senatorial candidate they will campaign for during election season.
Thus, said Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc. (PCFI) President Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, as an apparent consequence of Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva's "hurtful" comments about congressmen or House members.
Villanueva has been quoted as saying that House members can't be compared to senators like him because unlike the former, they receive millions of votes during elections.
"Alalahanin niya na ang Kongreso, mga congressman pagdating sa district lagi nilang hinihingian ng tulong at darating ang araw hihingi siya (Villanueva) ng tulong," Co said in a "teleradyo" interview Wednesday, Feb. 7.
(He should remember that Congress, the congressmen always receive requests for help from their district and the day will come that he will seek help.)
"At hindi ko ho alam sa ngayon sa mga sinabi niya ay tutulong pa ang mga congessman. And ang plano po namin kung sino ang aming susuportahan at sino rin ang aming ide-declare na 'persona non grata' na hind isusuportahan," said Co, chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.

(Right now, I don't know if congressmen would still be willing to help because of what he said. And our plan now is to determine those who we will support and those who we will declare as "persona non grata" and not support.)
A persona non grata is "an unacceptable or unwelcome person". Needless to say, it's an unsavory title for a person to have.
Deputy Speaker Quezon 2nd district Rep. David "Jay-jay" Suarez and Deputy Majority Leader TGP Party-list Rep. Jose "Bong" Teves Jr. have earlier criticized senators for belittling congressmen, despite the fact that they run to them for votes during election time.
