'TOL VIEWS

“An informed citizenry is at the heart of a dynamic democracy” says US President Thomas Jefferson. A community provided with the broadest access to information on matters that impact both individual and community life is a community empowered to make informed choices and collective action. From the most basic information on weather conditions to the more complex issues on national legislation, we owe it to the Filipino people to keep them informed and involved.
Sharing the above quote from Thomas Jefferson, I am happy to share with our readers that my radio program with DWIZ 882 AM will begin airing this coming Feb. 12. The one-hour radio program will air from Monday to Friday at seven in the morning. This radio program takes on the combined informative and public service format, with discussions on current issues on agriculture, tourism, law, labor and employment, trade and industry, transportation, overseas employment of Filipinos, local businesses, housing, sports, and weather, among others. The goal is to keep the public abreast on issues and concerns that they often have the greatest stakes.
During Mondays, the focus of the radio program will be on local governments, including the barangays. Isangguni mo kay Tol, as the segment title suggests, gives the public the opportunity to be informed about issues on local governance even down to the grassroots or barangay level.
For Tuesdays, Batas 101 Kasama si Tol aims to share with our kababayans the basic knowledge on our Constitution and our laws, their rights and duties under the law, legal remedies for legal issues, and the like.
Wednesdays will be about our unsung heroes – our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
The first and third Wednesday will highlight our OFWs working in Europe while the second and fourth Wednesday will be devoted for OFW kababayans working in the Middle East.
Every Thursday, local and overseas employment will be our focus, with information and discussion on common local labor, wages, and occupational safety and wellness issues.
Lastly, to wrap up the week, Friday will be devoted to agriculture, tourism, health, and business. Each Friday will feature a different segment. For example, first Friday of the month will be Usapang Turismo, second Friday will be about Agree may Mag-Agri, third Friday will be Utol mo sa Pagnenegosyo, and fourth Friday will be Kalusugan Mo, Prayoridad Dito.
Of course, bits of the usual sports, traffic and weather updates will be part of the daily airings. With all of these, we hope to educate the people and make them strategic and valuable partners in community and nation building.
Our sincere intent is to educate and serve our people through media, through this weekly opinion column and our upcoming daily radio program. I am hopeful that apart from the legislative work that I do in the Senate, I shall also be an instrument of people empowerment by sharing the knowledge and experiences I have gained through print and broadcast media.
