- Marcos said that the peace attained in the BARMM will be tested when it holds its first parliament elections in May 2024. He assured BARMM leaders that the national government will help them make the historic event a success.
President Marcos has urged the leaders of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) not to let adversarial anti-democratic elements ruin the region's first parliament elections in May 2025, as he said that a Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) is incomplete without a successful BARMM.

Marcos said this as he led the 17th Meeting of the National Government - Bangsamoro Government Intergovernmental Relations Body (IGRB) in Pasay City on Thursday, Feb. 8.
In his speech, the President lauded the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) for passing relevant administrative, civil service, education, electoral, and local governance codes that bring their people to progress.
"I would even venture to say that Bagong Pilipinas is incomplete without a Bangsamoro rising along within it," he said.
"A stronger BARMM means a stronger Mindanao. A stronger Mindanao means a stronger Philippines, bringing us closer to achieving our agendas," he added.
Marcos lauded BARMM leaders for their economic successes, particularly the success of the Bangsamoro Board of Investments in generating P3.3 billion worth of investments in the last quarter of 2023.
However, he said that the peace attained in the region will be tested when the BARMM holds its first parliament elections in May 2024. According to Marcos, the national government will help the BARMM make the historic event a success.
"I urge all of you, and we will be by your side, to make this very historic election, this very historical and important event a success," he said.
"Let us show the world that it is peaceful, and it is credible," he added.
Marcos then asked the BARMM leaders that while the region now operates under "different rules," they must not allow forces outside of the democratic process to ruin the elections.
"Let us not allow even one single voter to be disenfranchised by violence, intimidation, or bribery. That is the job we have in front of us," he said.
"We owe this to our children, to our grandchildren, that the horrors and the harrows of the past must never visit them again," he added.
President Marcos is confident that after the elections, BARMM will be stronger than ever.
"I face the future with optimism. What gives me hope is the belief that you have prepared well, you are ripe, and you are ready," he said.
The IGRB, established in 2019 under the Bangsamoro Organic Law, addresses intergovernmental conflicts, fiscal policy, and resource allocation to support BARMM's governance and development.
It aims to coordinate and resolve intergovernmental issues between the National Government and BARMM through regular consultation and negotiation.
