ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 41-year-old policeman shot his brother then himself in Barangay Don Alfaro Tetuan here on Wednesday night, February 7.
Police identified the suspect as Police Staff Sgt. Ferdinand B. Garniel, assigned to the maritime police in Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Investigation disclosed that Ferdinand drew a gun from his sling bang and shot his brother, Angelo, 35, a store merchandiser, in the mouth during a heated argument.
Ferdinand then shot himself in the head.
Angelo was taken to the hospital and was said to have survived the attack while Ferdinand died on the spot.
Police recovered a 9mm Glock pistol, ammunition, and two fired cartridge cases at the crime scene.
The two brothers were reportedly arguing about a property owned by their uncle Vergilio when Ferdinand apparently lost his cool and shot his brother.
