Todo na 'to! PNP to set up Cyber-Security Desk in all police stations to beef up fight vs cybercriminals
The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be going all-out against cybercrimes with the establishment of Cyber-Security Desks in all police stations across the country.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said training programs are also underway for all those who would be tasked to man the Cyber-Security Desks and in fact, a total of 52 policemen already completed the training for the Police Regional Office 4A.
“This is in compliance with the instruction of the President to focus on increasing cases of cyber-related crimes,” said Fajardo.
“But not all policemen assigned in police stations are trained for it so the training is ongoing. The training for 52 personnel from Region 4A was already completed and on the part of other regions, they are now scheduled for training,” she added.
The PNP has recorded an increase in cybercrime cases from Jan. 1 to Feb.1 this year compared to the same period last year.
For swindling and estafa, a total of 598 cases were reported this year, 305 cases for illegal access to accounts and 109 cases of identity theft.
Generally, Fajardo said the top three cybercrime in the country are online scam, investment scam and credit card/debit card fraud.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. earlier said that the PNP will focus this year in strengthening the manpower and equipment in the campaign against cybercrime.
Fajardo said they intend to finish all the training programs for policemen that will be assigned to man the Cyber-Security Desk this year.
