House Speaker Martin Romualdez has fully endorsed the mobilization of P35 million worth of government aid to the victims of a destructive fire in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on Wednesday morning, Feb. 7.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that has befallen the residents of Barangay Pagkakaisa and Barangay Bagong Silang. In these trying times, it is imperative that we come together as a nation to support our fellow Filipinos,” the Speaker said in a station.
“The provision of financial assistance is a crucial step in our concerted efforts to aid in their recovery," he added.
Romualdez is the legislative caretaker of the third congressional district of Palawan, composed of the city of Puerto Princesa and the municipality of Aborlan. This, after Rep. Edward Hagedorn passed away on Oct. 3, 2023.
Approximately 450 households and 920 families were affected by the fire in Barangays Pagkakaisa and Bagong Silang.
Amid the urgency of the situation, the House leader assured Palawan residents that the government was committed to providing immediate and effective aid to the fire victims.
The aid for the fire victims includes the P10,000 assistance per affected family through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The Office of the Speaker and Tingog Party-list are currently preparing 3,500 food packs for the fire victims through their respective Personal Calamity Assistance Fund.
The Speaker’s office reassured the fire victims that all necessary support will be delivered to them promptly and efficiently.
The City Social Welfare Development (CSWD) is currently in the process of finalizing the tally of the fire victims.
