A total of P4.51 billion worth of shabu, dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) were destroyed on Thursday, Feb. 8, by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) through thermal decomposition (thermolysis) at the Integrated Waste Management Inc. (IWMI) in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

In a statement, PDEA said all the dangerous drugs are completely decomposed or broken down and are impossible to reconstitute after they were exposed to temperature of over 1,000 degrees celsius.

PDEA Director General Moro Virgilio M. Lazo led the operation where the stockpile of illegal drugs and CPECs weighing 1,288,799.7371 grams were destroyed.

“Included in the destruction is approximately 530 kilograms (529,704.6 grams) of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Mexico, Pampanga in Sept. last year,’’ the PDEA noted.

Aside from shabu, the bulk of the illegal drugs and CPECS consisted of 535,352.3195 grams of marijuana, 3,219.0132 grams of ecstasy and 7,423.58 grams of cocaine.

The PDEA explained that the dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) comprise the evidence seized from various anti-drug operations conducted by PDEA together with counterpart law enforcement and military units.
