A gray Mazda CX-7 with license plates YKK-161 was found parked on A. Laura St., Barangay Guadalupe here on Tuesday night, February 6.
The vehicle was believed to be the car that hit and killed 23-year-old Jeslar Larumbe on Queens Road in Barangay Kamputhaw around 6 a.m. on Sunday, February 4. The victim was driving a motorcycle at the time.
Pending further investigation, police are withholding the name of the owner of the vehicle.
Police Lt. Col. Janette Rafter, deputy city director for operations of the CCPO, said the vehicle was captured by security cameras during the incident and witnesses confirmed that it was the car that hit the victim.
Based on information gathered, Rafter said investigators immediately reached out to the owner of the vehicle.
Rafter said they are still following up more leads to ensure that they can come up with an airtight case once charges are filed against the driver. “We are establishing a strong case, an airtight case so we can attain justice for the victim,” said Rafter.
Arn, a man who admitted owning the vehicle, told the media said he was not driving the vehicle when the incident happened.
According to Arn, he left home on Saturday night, February 3, but he did not bring his car. He said a female friend who has a duplicate of the car key was the one who used the vehicle. He did not identify his female friend.
Arn said he is the fifth owner of the vehicle and the scratches and dents on the vehicle’s bumper are already old.
Witnesses had said that the vehicle had blinkers when the incident happened.
Arn admitted the vehicle used to have blinkers as part of his business. He stopped selling blinkers after he was apprehended and fined by operatives of the Highway Patrol Group.
He assured that he will cooperate in the investigation being conducted by the police.
