Big man Shawn Umali has found a new home in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament after transferring to College of St. Benilde, the team posted on social media on Monday, Feb. 5.

Umali’s transfer came after a three-year stint with the Lyceum Pirates where he averaged 10 points, six rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season.
The development is expected to work wonders for St. Benilde after frontrunner and Season 98 Most Valuable Player Will Gozum exhausted his playing years.
Umali, along with Enoch Valdez and JM Bravo, led Lyceum to a Final Four finish last season where they lost to San Beda for a spot in the Final.
The 6-foot-3 center, who won the Most Improved Player plum in Season 98, will miss the centennial season to serve his residency and will likely suit up in Season 101.
Meanwhile, James Payosing confirmed on a social media story that he would be staying with San Beda.
The Finals MVP awardee vowed to defend the crown for Mendiola with Yukien Andrada and head coach Yuri Escueta.
