BALER, Aurora -- Presidential son Vincent "Vinny" Marcos was thrilled to show support to the skate community following Baler’s hosting of the first-ever Southeast Asian Street Skateboarding Competition at the town’s newly built skatepark here.

The youngest children of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. expressed his gratitude to Baler, which proclaimed him as the municipality’s adopted son, as well as the Angaras, who pretty much made the event possible, and Skate Pilipinas, the country’s skateboarding association.
The 26-year-old software engineer by profession, not only the youngest Marcos has consistently been spotted throwing in support for Skate Pilipinas and its athletes, but has got a knack for skateboarding himself.
“Pinakauna sa lahat salamat sa LGU at mga Angaras for supporting the skate competition. Maraming salamat talaga. Salamat sa Skate Pilipinas, I know you guys have been working hard for so long [including] sa skate clinic rin. Alam kong mahirap,” he said during the awarding ceremony at Costa Pacifica on Monday night, Feb. 5.
“And one last thing, sa mga competitors. I never like, from four months ago ‘yung competition sobrang galing niyo. The level of skateboarding has gone up so much. So I can’t wait for the next competition.
Tokyo Olympian Margielyn Didal copped the bronze medal in the women’s category in a pool of six finalists, while a pair of 12-year-olds Vareeraya Sukasem and Nathtiyabhorn Nawatikwong made it a 1-2 finish for Thailand.
Likewise, Cebuano Renz Gelig and Baler’s local and SEA Games gold medalist Mak Feliciano finished as runners up to Thailand’s Jarudet Sae Jao in a pool of eight finalists in the men’s category.
As the skatepark officially looks to open to the public, the town is hoping to host more international skateboarding competitions after already receiving inquiries about its world class facility.
