Marcos, Duterte trust, approval ratings up in Q4 2023 — OCTA

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte saw increases in their trust and performance ratings towards the end of 2023, based on an independent survey conducted by the OCTA Research.

The results of the Fourth Quarter 2023 “Tugon ng Masa” (TNM) survey, which were released on Tuesday, Feb. 6, revealed that President Marcos and Vice President Duterte received 76 percent and 77 percent trust ratings, respectively.

“While his (President Marcos) trust rating is higher by three percentage points compared to 73 percent from the TNM Q3 survey (third quarter 2023) conducted in October 2023, it is still within the margin of error. Meanwhile, only 8 percent distrust him, while 17 percent of adult Filipinos are undecided,” OCTA said.

Meanwhile, the Vice President’s trust rating was up two percentage points from 75 percent in the third quarter of 2023.

Only 5 percent distrust her, while 18 percent were undecided.

In major areas, OCTA said President Marcos’ trust rating in December 2023 ranged from 69 to 79 percent.

His highest trust rating was in Visayas (79 percent), while his lowest was in Mindanao (69 percent).

Meanwhile, Vice President Duterte was trusted in a wide range of areas, from 64 percent to 99 percent.

Her highest trust rating was in Mindanao (99 percent), while her lowest was in Balance Luzon (64 percent).

In December 2023, OCTA said that President Marcos’ trust ratings across socioeconomic classes ranged from 69 percent to 77 percent.

He received the highest trust rating from adult Filipinos in Class E (77 percent) and the lowest trust rating from Class ABC (69 percent).

OCTA said Vice President Duterte’s trust ratings ranged from 59 to 84 percent among various socioeconomic groups.

She received the highest trust rating from adult Filipinos in Class E (84 percent), and the lowest trust rating from adult Filipinos in Class ABC (59 percent).

Performance ratings

Among adult Filipinos, 71 percent were satisfied with President Marcos’ performance, which is significantly higher than the 65 percent (+6) reported in the TNM Q3 survey in October 2023.

Only 9 percent of adult Filipinos were dissatisfied with his performance, while 20 percent were undecided.

President Marcos’ satisfaction ratings in key areas ranged from 57 to 77 percent—his highest satisfaction rating was in Balance Luzon, while his lowest was in Mindanao.

His satisfaction ratings across socioeconomic classes ranged from 67 to 82 percent across socioeconomic classes—his highest satisfaction rating came from Class ABC, while his lowest rating came from Class E.

Meanwhile, OCTA reported that 75 percent of adult Filipinos were satisfied with Vice President Duterte’s performance, which was higher than 70 percent in the TNM Q3 survey conducted in October 2023.

Only 7 percent of adult Filipinos were dissatisfied with her performance, and 18 percent were undecided.

The Vice President’s satisfaction rating ranged from 61 to 97 percent across major areas, with Mindanao having the highest rating and Balance Luzon having the lowest.

Her satisfaction ratings ranged from 57 to 81 percent across socioeconomic classes, with the highest rating coming from Class E and the lowest from Class ABC.

The Fourth Quarter 2023 Tugon ng Masa survey was fielded from Dec. 10 to 14 through face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adult respondents nationwide.

It has a ±3 percent margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level, with subnational estimates for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao at a ±6 percent margin of error.
