Manila Mayor Honey lauded for beautifying, promoting Chinatown
Manila City Administrator Bernardito “Bernie” Ang lauded Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan for exerting great efforts in beautifying and promoting the Chinatown in Binondo.

During the forum organized by the Manila City Hall Reporters’ Association (MACHRA) on Monday, Feb. 5, Ang shared that former First Lady Imelda Marcos was the first one who promoted Manila Chinatown, which he said should be continued by the current administration.
Ang said that when Mrs. Marcos was still the governor of the Metro Manila Commission, in order to promote Chinatown, she had issued an order encouraging tourists to visit the Chinatown area.
Meanwhile, Lacuna-Pangan stressed that she is promoting the area as a top tourist destination so that it can attract more visitors, which can result in the creation of more jobs.
"Imagine if we have more tourists, then we'll have more jobs and income for the city," Ang said.
Manila Chinatown Development Council Executive Director Willord Chua and Manila Chinatown Barangay Organization President Jefferson Lau also discussed all the activities related to the celebration of the 430th anniversary of Chinatown and the Chinese New Year.
Chua said one of the highlights of the celebrations will be a Chinese cultural show at Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz in Binondo.
No liquor ban will be implemented during the celebrations which are expected to draw around 1 million people in Chinatown.
Ang added that this year's celebration will be more spectacular since President Marcos Jr. declared Feb. 10 as a holiday in the country.
