A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit Surigao del Sur on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 10:37 p.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs located the quake's epicenter at 25 kilometers (km) southeast of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.
The tremor with a depth of 46 km was tectonic in origin or caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
It was "slightly felt" at Intensity II in the City of Bislig and Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, Phivolcs said.
Phivolcs' instruments also recorded Intensity III (weak) in Tandag, Surigao del Sur.
There were no damages and aftershocks to be expected, said Phivolcs.
