Landslide hits area near mining site in Davao de Oro; fatalities feared


DAVAO CITY – Several individuals were reportedly buried alive in a massive landslide near a mining site in Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro, on Tuesday night, February 6.

The Maco Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the landslide occurred at 7:50 p.m. 

A bus carrying workers of a mining company was reportedly buried in the landslide. 

The MDRRMO has yet to determine how many  persons were affected in the landslide.

The MDRRMO added that the local government unit has dispatched responders and heavy equipment to the site. 

The local government has ordered a forced evacuation in the surrounding barangays of Mainit, Tagbaros, Elizalde, and Panibasan.

The province has been affected by bad weather the past few days, affecting thousands of individuals.
