Kindred femtech clinic enters women's healthcare

Published Feb 6, 2024 01:46 am

The local femtech start-up Kindred entered the Forbes Asia 100 to Watch list in 2023. With the introduction of a hybrid women’s clinic that focuses on women’s health, Kindred was listed in the Biotechnology & Category for offering virtual and in-clinic holistic health services in a safe space and inclusive environment. The innovative healthcare clinic was recognized for applying new technologies to serve women’s healthcare needs.

According to CEO Jessica De Mesa, Kindred’s mission is to revolutionize how healthcare is tailored and accessed to fit the specific needs of women using an omnichannel approach. “Our objective is to reshape the healthcare landscape for women by empowering patients, connecting them with specialized professionals, and providing personalized care plans that foster a more compassionate and efficient system,” said De Mesa.

In December 2022, co-founders De Mesa and Abetina Valenzuela inaugurated their first physical clinic in Serendra Mall, Bonifacio Global City. The Kindred clinic offers a range of different services from gynecology, and psychological health to fertility care and vaccinations against sexually transmitted diseases. They also provide physical diagnostic examinations, contraceptive packages, skin care, and other services. With highly-trained and experienced doctors and specialists, they also have comprehensive plans of care and treatment through a collaborative care model.

Appointments and virtual consultations can be made through Kindred’s website or app, allowing women easy access to their services as well as convenient check-in with the doctors. With all these faculties, Kindred empowers women by allowing them to take charge of their healthcare requirements. With a caring environment built around women's sensitivities and sensibilities, patients can open up about their health issues without fear or judgment, leaving them more receptive to the clinic’s care plan that can be customized to their physical needs, cultural beliefs, and chosen lifestyle.

Its first year of operation brought in the Kindred app, a user-friendly platform that provides ease of communication with healthcare professionals and enhancement of personalized services to patients. With the use of the app, patients can enjoy added features such as scheduling appointments, tracking treatments and care plans, and maintaining important medical documents. The app also allows e-consultations through video calls and chats, and book consultations effortlessly. Another useful feature is the matching of patients with specialists according to their specific healthcare needs and allowing both parties to engage in real-time chat conversations, enabling prompt support and efficient communication.

In 2023, Kindred was able to secure $1M in seed funding to implement the expansion program of its offline clinics, launch new women-centric services in line with patient demands, invest in marketing initiatives, and hold capacity-building training for its team. This development raised the company’s valuation to $6M since its establishment. The seed funding round was participated in by KST Ventures, Tenco Capital Holdings, Pawikang Capital Group, Pulse63 Healthcare Ventures, and Kaya Founders.

De Mesa shared that the startup’s plans include establishing a second physical clinic in Quezon City, along with additional satellite clinics all over Metro Manila. “This expansion is part of our commitment to making quality women's healthcare more accessible. We are actively exploring further expansion opportunities to reach more women in different communities even outside Metro Manila, aligning with our vision of empowering women through accessible and personalized healthcare,” added De Mesa.

Kindred is one of Manila Bulletin’s Newsmakers of the Year. The MB Newsmakers of the Year Awards is co-presented by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), Gcash, SM Development Corporation, and The Medical City. This event is also supported by major partner SM Supermalls.
