Is it summer yet?: PH just on 'monsoon break', says PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said warmer temperatures were being experienced in parts of the country, as the warm easterly winds temporarily replaced the northeast monsoon.

PAGASA weather specialist Glaiza Escullar said in a phone interview with the Manila Bulletin that the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” while still the dominant weather system in the country, may not always prevail.
"Iyong major wind system natin or wind flow from late October or early November hanggang March ay northeast monsoon, pero may mga time na hindi siya umiiral sa atin o iyong monsoon break ay pumapalit iyong hangin na galing east or iyong easterlies—so kapag pumalit iyong easterlies sa northeast monsoon, iyon 'yung tinatawag na break, break siya kase ibig-sabihin babalik ulit iyong northeast monsoon (The major wind system or wind flow from late October or early November until March is the northeast monsoon, however, there were times when it is not prevailing or when there was a monsoon break when the winds from the east or easterlies restores—it was the monsoon break, break meaning the northeast monsoon will prevail again),” Escullar said.
Meanwhile, she said cold temperatures may still be experienced in the early mornings, as the difference was just observed in the mid-morning or afternoon.
She added that PAGASA is expecting the northeast monsoon to prevail once more in Feb. 9.
Escullar added that the peak of amihan will be experienced this month, but its prevalence may persist until March.
