CWC to collaborate with DepEd to enhance child protection in schools
The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) confirmed its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) to bolster child protection measures within educational institutions.

In an interview with Manila Bulletin on Tuesday, Feb, 6, Undersecretary Angelo Tapales of CWC announced their collaboration with DepEd through an upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), currently undergoing review and slated for imminent signing.
Tapales highlighted their intention to integrate the Mahalin at Kalingain ang ating mga Bata (MAKABATA) Helpline 1383 with DepEd hotlines, mirroring their successful integration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) e-government application. This aims to facilitate easy access for children seeking assistance.
Additionally, the partnership will focus on establishing Child Protection Committees (CPC) in schools, aimed at equipping teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify and address various forms of child violence, particularly bullying.
DepEd's recent confirmation on Jan. 12 revealed over 170 reported cases of bullying, encompassing physical, verbal, and cyberbullying incidents.

He emphasized the pivotal role of the Child Protection Committee in tackling child violence, particularly bullying, within school premises.
"It's imperative that teachers are well-versed in internet safety, given the pivotal role of email and online applications in modern education," stressed Tapales.
Furthermore, the partnership emphasizes educating students on internet safety, covering essential topics such as avoiding harmful content, age-inappropriate material, safe communication practices with strangers, and responsible online behavior.
Tapales also emphasized the importance of equipping both teachers and students with the necessary skills to foster a safer and more conducive learning environment for Filipino children.
