Angara eyes synchronized Cha-cha plebiscite, 2025 mid-term polls
Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara said he is considering passing the proposed amendments to the 1987 Constitution in time with the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

Angara, chairman of the Senate subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes, said this would be cost-effective and practical for the government.
“Ang goal ko kasi (My goal), although the Constitution also sets the timeline, you must set the plebiscite 60 to 90 days after it passed by Congress,” Angara said in a radio interview after presiding the Senate panel’s hearing on Resolution of Both Houses No. 6 which seeks to amend certain economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution.
“We have to reconcile that timeline of having the plebiscite along with the 2025 elections kasi magastos ang plebiscite (because holding a plebiscite is costly),” he pointed out.
Angara said synchronizing both would not only streamline the process but also yield substantial cost savings for the government as holding a plebiscite costs several billions of pesos.
“Nandun ‘yung legal pero praktikal din tayo para makatipid sa pera ng bayan. Mas mabuti siguro ‘yun pero that’s my personal opinion (There is the legal but we are also practical to save the people's money. Maybe that's better but that's my personal opinion),” the senator said.
“I have to consult my colleagues as to the timeline of the plebiscite kasi ‘yung efficiency atsaka economics pag-uusapan din kung paano makakatipid ang taumbayan (because efficiency and economics will also discuss how the people can save money),” he added.
