Alcantara posts career-high ATP doubles ranking anew

The Southeast Asian Games champion jumped seven notches from No. 176 to No. 169 following his doubles title victory in the M25 Chennai International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament in India late last month.

In that $25,000 event, Alcantara teamed up with Indonesian Christopher Rungkat in beating Bogdan Bobrov and Indian Adil Kalyanpur, 6-4, 6-2, for their first doubles crown this year.

It was Alcantara’s 23rd ITF doubles title and third overall with Rungkat after the dynamic tandem prevailed in the M15 Kuala Lumpur and M15 Ipoh Perak in Malaysia last year.

His recent rankings feat also made him the top doubles player in the country.

Alcantara’s longtime patron and United Tennis Philippines (UTP) President Jean Henri Lhuillier lauded his feat.

"Niño's (Alcantara) relentless pursuit to greatness greatly embodies the resilience and determination that define great athletes. His achievements inspire us all and reflect the immense potential within the Filipino tennis community. He truly deserves the recognition and we cannot wait until the day he lands a spot in the top 100 players in the ATP,” Lhuillier said.
