The House of Representatives will maintain a heightened alert status in the coming days as it continues to grapple with apparent threats to security.
"I just coordinated with the security department. But today, I'll be issuing a memo about this heightened security alert to all the House members, employees, and staff of this institution," House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said in an interview Monday morning, Feb. 5.
Asked how long the heightened alert status and its accompanying security measures would last, Velasco said: "That's the decision of the House leadership."
Velasco bared to reporters that the House--including the congressmen themselves--have received multiple security threats, among which was a "bomb threat".

The secretary general apologized to the House employees, since the security measures were expected to affect their convenience.
"We will not allow motorcycles anymore to be parked in front of any building. We will designate a special place for them. And then there will be roving securitymen 24/7 around the premises. I'm sorry if some of you will be affected," Velasco said.
The House official reiterated that they were taking the threats "very seriously".
"We dont want to say na hindi importante ito o lokohan lang (We don't want to say that this isn't serious or just a joke)," he said.
