VP Duterte supports global efforts vs cancer

Vice President Sara Duterte on Sunday, Feb. 4, commemorated the World Cancer Day and expressed her commitment to “stand united” with the global effort to address the “devastating illness” that caused millions of lives worldwide.

In a statement, the official said that the world is fortunate “to witness remarkable advancements in technology, which have paved the way for more effective medical interventions, enabling earlier detection, treatment, and recovery.”
“This progress fuels our unwavering commitment to continue our relentless pursuit of cures and preventive measures. Hand in hand, we stand united in this global effort, utilizing our voices, platforms, and resources to confront and address this formidable illness,” she added.
But while there are medical advances that make detecting, treating, and recovering from cancer possible, she emphasized the need to “come together” because “the battle against cancer cannot be fought alone or in silence.”
“It is a collective endeavor that necessitates the unwavering support of each and every one of us, drawing strength from our boundless compassion, kindness, and love for our beloved ones,” Duterte said.
The Vice President hopes for “a world where cancer does not cast its shadow upon the lives of individuals and their families.”
She enjoined others to say a “heartfelt player” because that strengthen’s the resolve to create a future free from cancer.
“Let us join forces, inspire one another, and work earnestly towards a world where hope triumphs over despair and healing prevails over suffering,” the official said.
The world commemorates World Cancer Day every Feb. 4, with the aim to raise awareness on fundamental cancer issues.
The theme for 2024 is “Together, we challenge those in power” under the 2022-2024 campaign, “Close the cancer gap.”
According to World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, the theme calls on world leaders to prioritize and invest in cancer prevention and care, as well as to work together toward a cancer-free world.
