Poe: Strengthen firewall systems after latest website hack attempt on gov't offices
Senator Grace Poe on Sunday, February 4 renewed her call for the government to strengthen the firewall system of all government agencies’ website against possible cyberattack.
This, after the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) confirmed it had blocked cyberattacks from “within China” on the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), on the mailboxes of the DICT itself, the Philippine Coast Guard and the official website of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“The fresh attempt to hack a government website is alarming and outraging.
“While the DICT foiled the intrusion try, the recent incident was a stark reminder that cyber attacks have become bolder and more relentless,” Poe said.
The senator said all concerned agencies should take a cue from the findings of the DICT on the suspected source of threat actors on our privacy and security.
“Fortifying website firewall and systems should be the task of all agencies maintaining online presence,” she said.
“All means should be explored to keep the people's data secure and uncompromised,” the senator said.
