Mayor Honey warns public vs fake FB account

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan warned the public on Sunday, Feb. 4, not to fall for a fake Facebook (FB) account that copied her name and all her posts.

“Para po sa kaalaman ng lahat, mayroon pong kumakalat na poser Facebook account na ginagamit ang aking pangalan at kinokopya ang aking mga posts para magmukhang ito ang aking page (For everyone's information, there is a poser account that is circulating on Facebook that is using my name and copying my posts to make it look like my page),” the mayor said in her message to the Manila City Hall Reporters’ Association (MACHRA).

She encouraged them to report the poser account, which has the same number of followers as her real account: http://www.facebook.com/jenny.basilonia.940

She also thanked people who had already reported the account, and she clarified that her only official Facebook account is http://www.facebook.com/DoktoraHoneyLacuna, which has around 193,000 followers.

MACHRA said this is not the first time that the mayor's Facebook account has a poser.

The mayor said that her official account was created to provide accurate and updated information to the public, especially to her constituents, while the poser account is an attempt to mislead the public.

The official account also uploaded a video of her “The Capital Report," where she discussed live the activities and programs conducted by her administration.

Aside from the mayor's official account, Spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante said that the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) http://www.facebook.com/jenny.basilonia.940 is the city's other legitimate Facebook account.
