The heat of the game spilled over outside the court as Calvin Abueva and Mo Tautuaa along with their wives figured in a heated exchange following San Miguel’s 109-85 win over Magnolia on Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Abuevas came charging at the hallway of the venue as they tried to go after Tautuaa’s wife who alleged the Magnolia forward of disrespecting her by smirking at her while on his way out.

“Bakit niya ako ginanon, hinintay ko yung asawa ko tapos gaganunin niya ako,” said Abueva as he was being restrained by security.

“Tayong mga wife, hindi natin puwedeng bastusin 'yung mga asawa ng player 'di'ba. Sa game, game lang. Pero 'pag dumaan 'yung player, you have to respect the player pa rin,” Abueva’s wife Sam was heard saying.

The enigmatic forward was also caught in video challenging Tautuaa to a fistfight before security prevented the commotion from further escalating.

Even SMB team manager Gee Abanilla and active consultant Leo Austria talked to Abueva in an effort to pacify the incident but the Magnolia forward still had some choice words for the Tautuaas even on his way out of the venue.

Tautuaa’s wife, Aida, later then took to X (formerly Twitter) where she explained her side.

“TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT - Calvin DID NOT physically attack me. I had to walk past him to go to the restroom. He smirked at me, nodded his head up & down & said, “yeaaa” laughing. I said "wtf is wrong with you" & kept walking. He walked after me and literally got in my face,” Tautuaa’s wife wrote.

Tautuaa and Abueva got tangled at one point of the contest where the latter was assessed with a deliberate foul on the former although that did not result in any untoward incident during the game.

In fact, it was not even Tautuaa who Abueva got into a spat with during the game but actually SMB head coach Jorge Gallent. Both were whistled with technical fouls.
