The celebration, which aims to celebrate harmony and spread the message of tolerance among followers of the world’s religions, will run from Feb. 1 to 7.
“The Philippines, a tapestry of diverse cultures, traditions, and religions, stands as a shining example of unity amidst differences. Like colors on an artist's palette, we blend together, harmonizing our faith, goodness, and humility to build a sanctuary of peace,” the official said in a statement.
“Today, hand in hand, we walk alongside our Christian, Muslim, and other spiritual siblings, acknowledging our interconnectedness on this profound journey towards unity and serenity,” she added.
The Vice President expressed hope that through unity and respect, the world would be kinder and accepting.
Duterte also prays for “a world where love reigns supreme, where prejudice is but a distant memory.”
“Together, let us embark on this universal path, where trust, respect, and love intertwine like ribbons in a grand dance,” she said.
“With open hearts, we can craft a world that is kinder, more compassionate, and overflowing with acceptance, a world our children's children will embrace,” she added.
The World Interfaith Harmony Week was first proposed during the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on Sept. 23, 2010 by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. It was unanimously adopted by the UN on Oct. 20, 2010.
According to its website, it provides a platform “when all interfaith groups and other groups of goodwill can show the world what a powerful movement they are.”
