Manila Mayor Honey-Lacuna Pangan appealed for blood donations to help residents who are in need of blood but financially incapable.

Lacuna-Pangan said on Saturday, Feb. 3 that Sta. Ana Hospital is conducting a blood donation drive for its blood bank.
The lady mayor appealed to the public, Manila residents or not, to donate blood, as their help will go a long way to help those who are sick and in need of blood.
"Sa pagbibigay ninyo ng dugo, masasabi nating nakatulong tayo sa kapwa natin Manilenyo…bukas, may makakagamit ng dugo ko (By giving blood, we can help fellow Manileño… tomorrow, someone will benefit from my blood),” she said.
The mayor, also a doctor, said there is a solution of the daily problem of the Manila hospitals as to where to source blood for their poor patients, particularly those who have undergone operation or delivery, or have certain conditions that require blood such as anemia.
The blood bank aims to provide Manila’s patients of a safe source of blood, in line with the blood program of the Department of Health (DOH) and the city’s emergency preparation as well.
Without the blood bank, she said, residents will still have to spend P1,200 for a bag of blood which, most of the time, is not even readily available.
However, the mayor added, it will not be useful without blood donations coming in.
Having an in-house blood bank, SAH management ensures immediate access to a safe and adequate supply of blood products, which is vital for emergencies, surgeries, and the treatment of various medical conditions.
She said blood donors could proceed to the the SAH blood bank located on the hospital’s ground floor.
