Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in Pasay holds 'spoken word poetry'contest

Pasay City's Sangguniang Kabataan Federation launched a “spoken word poetry” contest participated in by members of the “Kabataang Makata” on Feb. 27.

Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the contest, which showcased the participants talent on oral poetic performance, centered on “Serbisyong Pagmamahal para sa Tapat na Paglilingkod”.

“It is actually amazing to experience spoken poetry, like all other forms of literature and art: Minsan masaya, minsan malungkot, minsan nakakatawa, minsan masakit, minsan nakaka-inspire (Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, sometimes inspiring). This art form is therapeutic. Lalo na sa ngayon (especially now) when mental health is zoomed in and given importance to. Ang pagsusulat, pagbibigkas, at pakikinig ay mga pamamaraan ng pag-cope o pag-harap sa mga hamon ng buhay na, at your ages, mga hamon na maghuhubog sa inyo sa pagiging (Writing, speaking, listening are ways of coping with or facing the challenges of life that at your age will mold you to become) responsible adults who know their self worth, who practice self love,” said Rubiano.

The mayor said all contestants in the spoken word poetry each received a certificate of recognition and a cash prize.

Rubiao said the winners in the contest were Xheann Hakkey Saliba of Barangay 31 named champion in the contest who received P12,500 cash prize; John Ezekiel Llorca of Barangay 132, the second placer with P7,500 cash; and Shen Mae Narvaez who got the third place with P5,00 cash prize.

She said all the contestants who participated in the contest were given P1,000 each.
