CLARK CITY – Fil-British Heather White and Jamesray Ajido gave the host country its first podium finish in the 11th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships after reaping bronze medals in their respective events at the New Clark City Aquatic Center on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

After a futile opening day, the 16-year-old White delivered the first medal for the national team after registering 1 minute and 3.9 seconds in the 15-17 girls' 100m butterfly event behind Hong Kong bets Yeung Hoi Ching (1:00.50) and Ki Mok Sze (1:02.73), who bagged gold and silver, respectively.
“If I continue through with this motivation I can definitely try again to finish second or first place,” said White, who also aspires to banner the PH team in the next Southeast Asian Games.
In the boys division, Ajido copped the bronze medal in the 12-14 50m freestyle event.
The 14-year-old La Salle Greenhills standout registered 24.34sec and finished behind Japanese Hirata Toya (23.21sec) and Chinese Wang Yaobin (24.10sec).
Meanwhile, Ajido, Ashton Jose, Gilbert Gonzalvo and Jet Beruedac came close to capturing the bronze in the 4x100m medley relay.
The national swimmers are currently at 17th place out of the 30 countries with Japan leading the charge with 20 gold, 11 silver and four bronze medals.
