UP Diliman website tops 2024 Webometrics Rankings in the Philippines

The websites of the University of the Philippines (UP) led the list of all the university websites in the Philippines, with UP Diliman's website at the top spot, based on the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities published by the Cybermetrics Lab of Spain.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Feb. 28, UP said UP Diliman ranked first among the country's 363 other universities, with the UP System placing third and UP Manila in seventh place based on results released in January 2024.

"While Cybermetrics assesses the universities via their websites, the ranking is not an evaluation of the features and usability of the online property," UP said.

"The Lab assesses the higher education institutions via: the volume of content made available via the website; the visibility of these contents; and the impact of these materials, based on how much these are linked to other research materials online," it added.

Meanwhile, for the categorized rankings, Webometrics assessed the university websites by their "Impact, Openness, and Excellence," said UP.

For the "Impact" rankings, UP Diliman ranked first, while Ateneo de Manila University came in second, followed by the UP System. 

"The Impact rankings refer to how the university’s research is disseminated online via citations, backlinks, and quotations in other research materials and institutions," said UP. 

In terms of "Openness" rankings, which assess the availability of the research materials on the university's website, the UP System topped the list, succeeded by De La Salle University Manila (DLSU), while UP Diliman came in third.

For the "Excellence" rankings, which check out the "quality" of research materials, UP Diliman was first on the list, followed by DLSU, and then UP Manila.

For the overall rankings in the globe, UP Diliman ranked 856th; UP System was at rank 1,912th; and UP Manila was 3,436th.

UP said the Ranking of World Universities is released every January and July "to promote academic web presence" with the goal of supporting the scientific and cultural knowledge generated by the universities in favor of Open Access projects.
