Pateros mayor says e-trike, e-bike ban on major NCR roads long overdue
Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III said the Metro Manila Council’s decision to ban e-trikes (electric tricycles) and e-bikes (electric bikes) on national roads in Metro Manila is long overdue.
Ponce is a member of MMC and on Feb. 28, the council passed a resolution prohibiting e-trikes and e-bikes from passing national roads in Metro Manila. A P2,500 fine will be imposed on violators.

In addition, each local government unit (LGU) in Metro Manila will determine the roads in its jurisdiction that will be added to the ban.
“We voted to ban e-trikes on national roads because this is a long overdue regulation and it should not only the MMDA [Metropolitan Manila Development Authority] who should immediately act on this but each local government as well,” Ponce told Manila Bulletin.
He said while e-trikes bring convenience to people, road accidents have happened involving the e-vehicles.
“While we acknowledge the convenience that these e-trikes bring to our people not only by reason of affordability and low maintenance we cannot ignore the abuse by which these vehicles are used leading to numerous accidents and danger to lives,” he said.
Ponce added, “For me banning the use of e trikes on national road is not enough but we have to regulate its use like requiring its registration (even for free or with minimal fee) and limiting its operation to authorized drivers only.”
