Police arrested a man who hacked his senior citizen neighbor with an axe, thinking she was a witch in San Miguel, Manila on Tuesday morning, February 27.
The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the suspect as Jabbar Mocaebat, 28, a resident of Barangay 648, San Miguel, Manila.
He was immediately arrested on complaints of the victim's daughter.
Authorities said the 65-year-old victim was walking along Carlos Palanca Street in Barangay 648, San Miguel on way to her daughter's house at around 8:10 a.m. when she was attacked by the suspect.
They said that the suspect was seen on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage following the victim. He suddenly hacked her in the head with an axe.
Though wounded, the victim managed to run and reach her daughter's house.
The victim's daughter immediately rushed her mother to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center when she saw blood oozing from her head.
During investigation, police learned that the suspect attacked the victim because he believed she was a witch.
Police said the victim is now in good condition after undergoing treatment. She was discharged from the hospital on the same day.
The suspect is now detained at Barbosa Police Station (PS-14) and will face frustrated murder charges.
