House pledges support for Rotary International convention in 2028

The House of Representatives has expressed its full support to the first-ever Rotary International convention to be held in Manila in June 2028.
House Resolution (HR) No. 1607 says that this convention will serve as a platform to showcase the Philippines' socioeconomic advancements and tourism.
The event is envisioned to foster “stronger public-private partnerships and international engagements” to further propel investment and appreciation for the nation's cultural heritage and tourist attractions.
Manila won the provisional bid to host the annual convention last year. More than 25,000 Rotary members and participants are expected to join the festivities ,which is penciled to take place from June 3 to 8 in 2028.
“The success of this monumental event requires the collective effort and support of both the government and private sector, and may enhance the Philippines' standing as an emerging prime destination for international business, tourism, and conferences,” the resolution read.
“The convention likewise presents an unparalleled opportunity to spotlight our nation's unique blend of hospitality, cultural richness, and the collaborative spirit of the public and private sectors, furthering our goals of international integration and economic vitality,” it added.
A copy of HR No. 1607 was presented to Rotary International President Gordon McInally by Speaker Martin Romualdez on Wednesday, Feb. 28, during the former's courtesy call to the House of Representatives.
As a testament to its support for the upcoming convention, the House commended the organization for its humanitarian efforts in the same resolution.
“Rotary International's initiatives in health, education, peace, and economic development have uplifted countless lives, fostering a better quality of life for all, especially the underprivileged and marginalized sectors of society,” the resolution read.
Receiving McInally aside from Romualdez were OFW Party-list Rep. Marissa "Del Mar" Magsino and Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera.
According to its website, Rotary International stands to “provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace” through its “fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders”.
