A doctor-congressman said it's a good thing that former president Rodrigo Duterte has come out to clarify that he never branded his successor, President Marcos, a drug addict.
"Welcome pa rin yan sa totoo lang. From a negative statement to a positive one. Ako po, tingin ko welcome po yan," South Cotabato 2nd district Rep. Peter Miguel said in a press conference Wednesday, Feb. 28.
(That is still welcome, honestly. From a negative statement to a positive one. For me, I think that's welcome.)
"Mas maganda yung ganun na naklaro na hindi niya (Duterte) sinabi po yun," added Miguel, who is a medical doctor by profession.
(It's better that he has now clarified that he didn't say it.)
In a media interview Tuesday night, Feb. 27, Duterte claimed that he never called Marcos a drug addict.
This was in reference to the ex-president's tirade in late January wherein he alleged drug use on the part of Marcos.
But Duterte clarified that what he actually said was that the incumbent President may have used medicines such as aspirin or antibiotic. More importantly, he didn't label Marcos as a drug addict, he claimed.
Duterte, a former longtime Davao City mayor, served as Philippine president from 2016 to 2022.
